In this Page, I will show you how to make an Homemade Collimator for your laser!
Things needed:
-Concave Lens, About the size of your Laser(Look at picures)
-Convex Lens, About the size of your Laser(Look at pictures)
-Pen/Lead Pencil about as thick as your laser(Look at pictures)
-Fire Source(To heat knife)
-Knife(To Cut the "Pen/Lead Pencil")
-Epoxy Glue, ask a hardware store for the best glue for glass)
-File
Instructons:
Step1: Test your lens(concave infront of laser, move convex lens back and forth) and write down the distance between the 2 lens that you think has the best divergence.
Step2: Heat up a knife until it's red, make sure the knife's handle isn't metal, if it is, make sure to wear gloves.
Step3: Look at "Picture 1" to see where to cut, leave some extra space for the larger tube.
Step4: Cut off/file down the pieces until you think the lens will fit (screw the 2 pieces together and look at your measurements from Step1, look at Diagram1 and file down to about 1-3mm behind the dotted red line, DON'T GO PAST IT!!)
Step5: Mix a small amount of Epoxy glue, and use a toothpick to apply it to where you put the lens, look at "Picture 2&3".
Step6: Let it dry
Step7: Use tape to stick it infront of your laser
Step8: Your done!!!

dude... so that makes the beam diamater smaller? they should have these in evry laser. should get them precise enough till the beam is 1 nanometer long. aka. handheld metal cutting machine!!!!
they should try to do that...
if the beam divertage is nearly the same as when it went into the collaminator, you could put another one infront of that and it would make it smaller, then again... |

this seems like a great idea to enhance your laser's power...
so what kind of results have you found after testing your device with this set of lenses? |

Sorry for the late reply.
This collimator can bring my laser's divergence down to maybe .5mRad, but it increases the beam diameter by about .5mm.
For burning, I could adjust the beam diameter so thin, that it looks like a strand of hair, or even thinner!
When using this collimator, I could burn almost anything instantly!
The Lens I used were form an old Camera, these lens are made form the highest quality glass I have ever seen, that when I accidentally slid a screwdriver over it, nothing happened!
I still have a left over rectangular IR filter, and a convex lens. |
