Does anyone checked his/her laser for IR leakage?
I know that blue lasers are also DPSS so they also radiate IR beam.
Do they have IR filters?

Yeah they contain IR filters.
Blue lasers work the same way as greens. Both greens and blues contain a crystal which is usually ND:YV04, this crystal actually produces multiple lines when it lases. In greens it's the 1064nm line that gets frequency doubled to 532nm, in blue lasers it's the 946nm line that gets doubled to 473nm. |
ND:YVO4 cyrstal doesn't lases only 1064nm light when pumped with 808nm IR as we all know it also lases 946nm. 946nm line is much weaker than 1064nm line, so our blues are less powerful than greens.
Is the second cyrstal (KTP) same in blue lasers? It must be something else to produce blue! |

hey muRRat,
see if you can't find out the answer to that one. maybe if it is such, then maybe it would be possible to switch the crystal out of a (cheap)green to make blue? i know, not happening, but current prices on blues($100/mW) is ludicrous. _________________ \"I have astigmatism. It uses an LBO crystal instead of KTP. for $250 you can buy a Nd:YV04/LBO crystal set on ebay _________________ Nexus >114mW (probably the best Nexus known to man)*SOLD*

Well, that ALMOST helps me. I need a second job! 65 hrs/wk just isn't enough anymore. But, thank you very much, HumanSymphony. That was helpful in an educational sense. It does give me some hope. _________________ \"I have astigmatism. My optometrist says it comes from years of doing stand-up comedy and

405nm is cool too, and that can be reached with a diode out of a ps3. Way cheaper and they don't have IR to be filtered out. More than enough topics around here are about constructing such a laser.
Or you could go for an argon laser |
