Most DVD players/burners use constant wave diodes not pulsed. Some DVD burners use pulsed diodes, but it's not that common.

DVD Burner diodes range from ~60mW to ~200mW CW depending on the speed etc.

I know this is a bit off topic but how fast would you need a DVD burner to go to be about 100mW. 16x are the ones i see most commonly used and i think they get about 200mW of power... but im not sure.

Usually when they are outputting 200mW they are operating in pulsed mode. The 16x and faster DVD burners will land you with a 100mW+ laser diode in CW, higher if you run it in pulsed operation as mentioned.

I can get smoke from black vinyl plastic from focusing the dot of my <15 mW bluray laser! I have shot a balloon and it slowly deflates. Very Happy
