High every one been a while since i have been on here. Working on setting up a nice laser show for a friend of mines concert. I Got a spirograph working with 2 motors and 2 potemeters to control the speeds of each motor, but i was wondering if any one had any ideas on how to go about automating the speed changes. Some way that wit would automatically cahnge speeds of different motors at random time to keep the patterns changing with out hving to be there turning the potemeters. any ideas would be really appreciated

If you are using low power DC motors, you could use two '555' timers, set up as ramp generators, to charge a capacitor. The capacitor charge could bias a transistor to vary the voltage to the motor. By having the caps charge at different rates a changing but repetitive pattern would result. The longer it takes to charge the caps, the longer it would take the pattern to repeat, and the longer it would take the patterns to change. The more random you want the patterns, the more complicated the electronics become. Let me know what kind of motors you are using (max current and voltage) and I'll suggest a circuit.

Use a microcontroller, DA converter and amplifier. Gives you more than enough possibilities.
