That's just the alignment laser you see there. The actual Oxygen Iodine laser is a 3uM wavelength and completely invisible.

3uM, not 3nM?

3uM is about as far as you can get in the UV spectrum I think.

3 microns? micro is written as "u".

That would be deep (probably past) the IR spectrum...

3um would be 3000nm?

Yep, a CO2 laser is 10600nm.

Actually the ABL is a higher wavelength than the CO2 laser (the CO2 is about the farthest into the IR of any laser, at least any commercially available kind):

true, however and just out of curiosity is a phaser a different thing then a laser?

i know phaser stands for phased energy but wouldn't a laser be the same thing?

Say what? I always thought a "phaser" was just something made up by the screen writers of Star Trek..... Confused

ABLs are Oxygen Iodine lasers, if I remember correctly, Oxigen Iodine lasers have a wavelength of ~1.3µm (~1300nm), not 3µm (3000nm).

You're right about that - I think I did misquote somewhere here.....it is the deuterium flouride chemical laser with the deeper of the two wavelengths, not the chemical oxygen iodine laser (COIL).
